1. Do I need a permit to put up a fence?

Yes, you need a Building Permit to put up a fence, and also if you are replacing a fence.

Yes, you need a Building Permit.

3. Do I need a Building Permit for a deck which is not attached to the house and at ground level?

A Building Permit is required for all decks.

4. As a homeowner, do I need a permit to have electrical work done?

Homeowners can not do their own electrical work. You must hire a licensed Freeport electrician to any electrical work. The licensed electrician must file an electric permit before any electrical work can be started.

5. As a homeowner, do I need a permit to do plumbing work?

Homeowners cannot do their own plumbing work. You must hire a plumber who is licensed or reciprocal with Freeport, and must file for a plumbing permit before any plumbing work is started.

6. Do I need a permit to replace my roof?

If you are only replacing the shingles, you do not need a permit. However, if you are replacing any plywood, you do need a Building Permit.

7. Do I need a permit to put Aluminum Siding on my house?

No, a permit is not required for Aluminum Siding.

8. What time during regular business hours are the Building Inspectors available to speak to?

The Building Inspectors are available by phone or in person from 8:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m., and by phone only from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

9. Where can I obtain a copy of my property survey?

You can obtain a copy from the Freeport Building Department, if a copy is on file.

10. How can I find out the dollar amount of my property taxes?

You must contact the Treasurer's Office at (516) 377-2212

11. I purchased a house in Freeport; how can I find out if there are any violations on my property?

You must file a "Freedom of Information Law" (FOIL) request in the Village Clerk's Office.

1. How can I apply for a job with the Village?

You can download an application online or obtain one in person at the Human Resources Office in Village Hall, Room 217, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and 4pm. 2. What is the minimum age requirement for full-time employment?

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

3. What should I bring with me when applying for a job with the Village?

a) Proof of residency will be needed at the time of application submittal. Acceptable forms of identification include one piece of postmarked mail with your address listed (such as a bill or statement), or a current lease. A Driver's License is not considered valid proof of residency.

b) If you are an exempt fireman, please bring with you your certificate (copies are acceptable).

c) Also, please bring with you a blue or black ink pen.

4. Do you have any tips or suggestions for me when applying?

A resume is always a great thing to have when applying for any job. If you have a resume, please bring it with you when applying in person or attach it to your printed online application. When completing the application, please make sure to fill in as much information as possible, and write clearly. Your application is a reflection of you. Please be prepared to provide recommendations from previous employers.

5. Why must I be a resident of the Village in order to apply for employment?

The Village of Freeport adopted a local law pertaining to the residency of its employees. Under this law, (Section 42 of the Code of Ordinances), every person hired by the Village must either be a current resident of the Village or become a resident of the Village within six (6) months of successfully passing their probationary period.

1. How do I report an emergency or crime?

Dial 911.

**Power failures or other wide spread utility problems SHOULD NOT BE REPORTED to 911. The volume of calls from persons in the affected neighborhood or throughout the Freeport community, overwhelm the 911 system and prevent true emergency calls from getting through.

3. How can I get a copy of a police report?

Copies of reports may be obtained at the Police Clerical Office (enter through main door of Village Hall and follow the signs) between the hours of 9:30am to 3:30pm. Arrangements may be made to pick up reports after hours, call 516-377-2474 to arrange for this service. The cost of obtaining a police report is $.25 per page. Photo ID is required.

4. How do I file a Freedom of Information Request?

To file a Freedom of Information Request, come to the Police Clerical Office (enter through main door of Village Hall and follow the signs) between the hours of 9:30am to 3:30pm and complete a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Request form.

1. How can I assure that my refuse and recycling will be picked up as scheduled?

Collections may be made anytime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. It is best to put your refuse at the curbside after 6 p.m. the night before your scheduled pick up day. Material placed curbside on the morning of pick up after 7 a.m. is considered a late put out and may not be collected.

2. Is there a limit as to how much refuse I can have picked up each week?

YES. One family residences are limited to a total of five (5) cans, pails, bags, or bundles of non recyclable waste on each of the two (2) collection days per week. Legal two, three, and four family residences shall have the same limit per unit.

3. What constitutes a special pickup and who should I call to schedule a special pickup?

SUPER BULK ITEMS larger than two (2) feet by two (2) feet and exceeding the capability of being picked up by two (2) workers are considered a special pickup. You must call
623-3919 to schedule for the item to be picked up.

4. What are some items that may require a special pickup?

Primarily metal appliances manufactured for residential use and not limited to the following: refrigerators, freezers, ovens, stoves, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, swing sets, barbecues, hot water heaters, steel file cabinets, air conditioners, lawnmowers, bicycles, and steel furniture are considered special pickup items. All metal items or items with metal parts are also considered special pickup items. Call 623-3919 to schedule an appointment for pick up.

5. What is my bulk pick up day?

Bulk is picked up once a week on your RECYCLE day.

6. What is the telephone number of the dump in Merrick?

The telephone number of the Merrick dump is (516) 378-4210.

7. How many bags of leaves am I allowed to put out on Wednesday, yard waste day?

You can put out up to 20 bags of leaves.

8. Is a mattress and box spring considered a special pick up?

No. A mattress and box spring is considered a bulk item and should be put out for pick up on your recycle/bulk day.

Village records may be obtained by filing a Freedom of Information request with the Village Clerk's Office. There is a $0.25 per page charge for photocopies. Oversized documents (maps, drawings, etc.) are sent out for copying and copy charges vary.

4. Where do I obtain a parking permit for the Long Island Rail Road Parking lot?

Annual parking permits (March 1st through February 28th) are available for purchase at the Village Clerk's Office. The Village resident fee is $60.00 (proof of residency required); non-resident fee is $120.00

5. How do I obtain a copy of my Marriage Certificate?
